This one week course increases the awareness regarding the multidisciplinary management of bone and soft tissue tumors and updates orthopedic surgeons on basic principles of orthopedic oncology

Course Features

Course Highlights

  • Delegates have an opportunity to attend OPD (approx 100 ? 125 cases/day) interact with faculty and discuss the principles of diagnosis and management with a multi disciplinary team
  • Delegates will attend two sessions of live demonstration of core needle biopsies for bone and soft tissue tumors in operating rooms. This will be preceded by a didactic lecture on biopsy.
  • Delegates will attend at least two sessions of pre operative planning ? this will be an interactive session with faculty to discuss approach to surgery, planning of resection and reconstruction options and ordering of custom mega prosthesis.
  • Delegates will get an opportunity to join in major surgical procedures like curettage/ resection of giant cell tumors, megaprosthetic replacement around the knee/hip, soft tissue sarcoma excision, pelvic tumors etc depending on case availability.
  • Delegates will also attend the weekly clinico-patho-radiology meeting (Tumor Board meeting).
  • Delegates will get a chance to visit the tissue bank and learn details of procedures involved in processing and use of allografts.
  • Delegates will get an opportunity to visit the imaging facilities at TMH and observe CT guided biopsies / radio frequency ablation / vertebroplasty (depending on case availability). They will also see the PET imaging facility and interact with nuclear medicine specialists.
  • Delegates will attend didactic lectures on management of common bone and soft tissue tumors, chemotherapy, radiation, pathology, imaging.
  • Course material will be provided as soft copy in a USB drive.

Day 1, Sunday: CME on Orthopedic Oncology (Course delegates will be entitled for a free registration.)
Day 2, Monday:

  • Pre operative planning session
  • Demonstration of major surgical procedures in operating theatre.

Day 3, Tuesday:

  • Morning lecture – Didactic lecture on biopsy
  • Outpatient clinic
  • Multidisciplinary joint clinic
  • Demonstration of core needle biopsies
  • Pre operative planning session

Day 4, Wednesday:

  • Morning lecture – Didactic lecture on radiology
  • Demonstration of major surgical procedures in operating theatre
  • Demonstration of core needle biopsies
  • Interactive session – case scenarios, one to one interaction solving individual queries

Day 5, Thursday:

  • Morning lecture – Didactic lecture on chemotherapy
  • Outpatient Clinic
  • Demonstration of core needle biopsies
  • ORP meeting (Tumor board meeting)

Day 6, Friday:

  • Morning lecture – Didactic lecture on radiotherapy
